Dielectric Oil = Oil of Life
Connected to the rosette there are two instruments called LADCP (lower Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) which record the currents throughout the water column as the rosette descends. These LADCPs are powered by batteries that are submerged in dielectric oil that protect them from the high pressures of the great depths. This oil extends the life of the batteries. Yet sometimes they give problems that the UTM technicians detect, repair and everything resumes working satisfactorily.
